.Hroptr.
Silent Depravation

Second album from Belgian .Hroptr., which is a dark ambient project. Don't expect minimalistic ambient, .Hroptr. uses a varied palette of sounds, soft beats as well as other kinds of percussion and vocal samples. The atmospheres radiated through the tracks vary, some leave place for beauty, while 'Of Heresy and Blood' has a more military feel, again other tracks have a more eastern touch, as for example 'Beneath Trembling Boulders', while 'Eastern Peril' adds a slight melancholic feeling, still there is an overall dark brooding atmosphere. I've got the feeling it's less dark than "Off-Key Interlude", but this certainly is not a bad thing in this case. On "Off-Key Interlude" there is more difference between the songs, but "Silent Depravation" brings a more coherent work. Nevertheless there still is place for experiment, for example "Anomalies" which contains some guitars, as well as the fact that unconventional methods are used to make sounds.
.Hroptr. certainly deserves your attention if you're into ambient. If you still want this album, you've got to be fast, since it's limited to 111 copies and it's nearly sold out from the label, but there are some other places where you still can get it, most probably from the man himself and Carpe Noctem Records also has some copies.
